An auntie to Alex and Duke De Rego who was an important part of their lives, Jhonele’s defining characteristic is her huge heart. Tough on the outside, but soft and mushy on the inside, she approaches life with a deep sense of empathy and love of connecting with others. Jhonele was particularly close with Duke, the younger of the two brothers, who went everywhere with her and her children, from family trips to the beach, movies, or shopping trips to the mall in Hilo.
The loss of her nephews moved her to take part in sharing their story and keeping their memory alive through service to Hawaii’s youth. She joined the Alex and Duke De Rego Foundation Board in 2016 as the Treasurer.
Jhonele has a diverse range of work experience, including bookkeeping, serving as a court clerk, medical billing, and in the tourism and hospitality industry. She currently works at Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection. A true people person, she loves the opportunity to connect with and hear stories from the individuals she encounters from all over the world. Jhonele values quality time with her family. She is the youngest of ten siblings and has three children and two grandchildren of her own. On a day off you can find her BBQing or enjoying the crystal clear waters and white sand at Waialea Beach with her grandkids.
