Alex or Al boy as he was called by family and friends was a very loving son, and brother. He loved the ocean, diving, fishing, swimming and boogie boarding. He loved funny things, telling jokes, and watching funny movies, he especially enjoyed the local comedy act the “Braddahs”. He always walked around telling their jokes. Meeting them in person at his football banquet was something he never forgot. He dreamed to be a UFC fighter. He was a member of Waimea Boxing Club at a time when there were hardly any boys his age boxing, a lot of times he had no choice but to spare with the older guys. He was tough, that’s for sure.
He was a football player of the Waimea Cowboys Football team. He was a basketball player of the Waimea Knights Basketball team. He won the most valuable player award at the New Hope Basketball tournament in Waimea in the 9 &10 year old division. He was a catcher of the Westside Little League Baseball team from Waimea who went on that year to win the Big Island Championship Title. He was a natural athlete, and loved sports. He played with a lot of heart and soul. He was a student of Waimea Middle School and tried the best he could at academics but it wasn’t something he loved, he liked hanging out with his cousin Chace Gambill, friends, Mana Daog, Micah Dunhour, Nona and Kekoa Ambrosio more than doing school work. The kids in school nicknamed him “Big Al”.
He loved his Hawaiian heritage and being a local boy. Growing up in a home with two older brothers, Alex was known and accepted by all their friends. Al fit right in where ever he went. He especially like hanging out with his brother Kaleo who was thirteen years older than he. Kaleo’s friends all knew Al was his brother. He was the big brother to Duke and looked out for him wherever they went. He worried about his brother Auwae who left home at the age of twelve to attend school at Kamehameha Kapalama Campus on Oah’u, Al was ten when Auwae left. He could be very outspoken at times but always quick to apologize whenever he was wrong. Alex was a very sensitive young man and loved his family completely.
He was the God-son of Cody and Pua Correa who made him feel special and treated him like their own son. Their stewardship of his spiritual care deposited in Alex a love for Jesus and a longing to know him better. He was baptized at the age of ten deciding this on his own. In Alex’s short time here he brought a sister and father back together again. Today his sister Ululani Faitau and his Dad Lamar mended broken bridges with forgiveness because of Alex’s love for his family. He truly was a remarkable son!
